Steno Table and Roller Bag Recommendation

(Back to the Course Equipment page)

The height of most desks is too high for comfortable, healthy typing.  It is very poor practice to have the wrists resting on the edge of table or desk.  For this reason, many transcribers prefer to use a portable typing stand.

We strongly recommend that the student use such a portable steno table both during the course, and later as a transcriber.  A good quality steno table is the CR3 insTand

It might seem obvious that a transcriber needs some way to transport the computers and other paraphernalia of the job.  But how?

In order to protect his or her physical well-being, the student must not carry the equipment in a backpack or briefcase-style bag!

We recommend a computer roller bag, such as those available in many office supply stores.  Get a bag with padded compartments, so the two computers can be individually protected.  These roller bags can run from $50 upwards.  One good source of roller bags is Targus.  Here's a direct link to their roller bags.
