Becoming an Independent TypeWell Contractor
December 2010 -- Many TypeWell transcribers have asked us for guidance about setting up their own business to provide TypeWell transcribing services.
With the input of a number of successful TypeWell independent contractors, we've put together a webpage full of independent contractor information.
Check it out!
TypeWell Agencies
May 2010 -- In response to frequent requests, we now provide a central location for finding agencies that provide TypeWell services.
For those who don't have the time to send candidates through the TypeWell transcribing course, this resource provides a way to find transcribers immediately.
This can be helpful even for those who plan to take the transcribing course eventually but need transcribing services in the meantime.
Blog for administrators
February 2010 -- The TypeWell blog has been extended with regular items of interest to administrators, with tips about how to recruit transcribers, how to evaluate the quality of service, and other common topics of interest to coordinators and administrators.

Improved Course Application Process
February 2010 -- The TypeWell transcribing course has brought online a sophisticated new set of application tests to better identify the skills needed by successful transcribers.
This set of automated tests helps applicants to know more accurately whether they are likely to succeed in the course.
In addition, this new feature is a boon to administrators by reducing the cost and uncertainty in choosing the candidate.
It is now easier than ever to find candidates who are likely to become the best possible transcribers.
TypeWell Blog for transcribers
March 2009 -- To provide another avenue for continuing education of transcribers, we're happy to announce a blog about topics of interest to transcribers!
See Kyp's Tips for the latest tips and news for transcribers.
TypeWell Everywhere
November 2008 -- A magical new version of TypeWell is now available!
TypeWell Everywhere brings the power of TypeWell abbreviations to the Windows desktop.
Transcribers no longer have to use one way of typing while providing services, and another when working at their own computer.
By using Everywhere, transcribers can now keep their skills honed by using their faster typing for regular correspondence and email as well.
TypeWell "V5" Major Release
September 2007 -- We're very pleased to announce the release of the first major new version of TypeWell in 4 years!
We call it "V5".
V5 has many new features, including the long anticipated new support for transcribing math and science.
We also now offer a premium edition of V5 with advanced linking features for remote transcribing.
TypeWell Online Training Includes Personal Teacher
March 2007 -- We've opened general registration for our online transcribing course.
The new course combines the flexibility of distance learning, the focus of computer-aided instruction, and the guidance of a human teacher.
In the past, our in-person classes were impractical for some people due to scheduling conflicts or travel costs.
Now those limitations are gone.
Potential students can sign up for the course at any time, and complete the full transcribing course remotely.
The core of the online training software is a surprisingly smart interactive computerized teaching assistant named Kyp, far more sophisticated than typical 'next page' courseware.
Kyp is fast, fun, and provides the same individualized feedback our trainers would for guiding the development of top-notch transcribing skills.
Students love him! Sometimes it's scary how real Kyp becomes to them.
Quality of training was the deciding factor in including a human teacher in the otherwise fully automated online course.
At first we thought Kyp might be enough, but eventually we decided that for refining each individual student's skills so that he or she is ready to go from training right into the job of transcribing, there's no substitute for a real, human, experienced teacher.
Don't tell Kyp we said that!
The online course covers a wide spectrum of topics related to transcribing, including abbreviation techniques, specific condensing methods, extensive transcribing of real lectures with immediate individualized feedback, the transcriber's role in the classroom, issues in deafness, and communication strategies.
The course is open for registration.
