Registering for the Course

Pre-registration
To be eligible for the TypeWell training course, a candidate must complete our online pre-registration process (which starts at the bottom of this page).
Pre-registration requires the candidate to set up a free online account at our website.
Pre-registration takes 15 to 20 minutes.
The pre-registration process gives the candidate detailed information about the job of a transcriber, trainee qualifications, the components of the training course, the equipment needed, and the training schedule.
The candidate's typing skills are also measured during the pre-registration process, in our 5-minute required typing test.
Payment
At the end of the pre-registration process, the candidate may decide whether to register.
Payment is collected as the first step of registration.
The cost of the training course is $400 (payment by credit card only).
The candidate may pay by credit card or may enter the email address of the person at your site who will make the decision to sponsor the training of the candidate or not.
There is a lower fee for the refresher course for those who are already TypeWell transcribers and need to freshen their skills.
A limited number of partial training stipends are currently available for trainees in the Midwest who complete the TypeWell training course before September 2008.
Passing trainees can apply for these stipends after completing the training course.
Please contact us for details if you're living and working in one of these states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.

Sponsoring
If a candidate gives us a potential sponsor's email address at the end of pre-registration, we will send an email to that address with the candidate's typing score(s) on our required 5-minute typing test, and a link for paying on-line for the training.
The sponsor should hold onto that email and complete an interview with the candidate.
If the sponsor decides to proceed, the sponsor can then either make the payment directly by clicking on the link in the email, or can forward the email to someone else who will pay, such as an accounting department.
Registration
Once the payment is received, the trainee (and the sponsor, if any) will receive emails confirming that the trainee is registered for the course.
The trainee must then sign back in to his/her online training account and complete the registration process.
The remainder of registration includes choosing a start date, telling us where to mail the training materials, and faxing to us a signed Information and Waiver sheet.
Course Start Date
During registration, a trainee may choose from the list of available training start dates.
During the waiting period until the course starts, from one week up to 3 months, the trainee prepares so that the equipment is all ready when the date arrives.
Training Materials
The training materials will be sent to the shipping address you specify, and will arrive at least day or two before the trainee's scheduled start date.
The package will include a CD with the training software, instructions for installing and activating the training software, and a workbook for the trainee to use with the lessons.
The software installation and activation is simple, but if it is required by your site that your own technician install all software, be sure to make an appointment with the technician ahead of time, so there will be no delay once the software reaches your site.
Candidates: start pre-registration here
If you are interested in taking the training, the first step of pre-registration is to take our automated sample 3-minute typing test.
This will show if your skills are close to what's required for the training course.
If you pass the sample test, we'll set up your free pre-registration account, will tell you more about the training, and will have you take the full 5-minute typing test.
Be warned!
This is a hard test!
Even if you get high scores like 75 words per minute on some other typing tests, you might fail this one.
That's because this test includes numbers, dates, names, and many multisyllabic words.
This is representative of the kind of typing you would have to do as a transcriber.
Please note, what you are about to take is only a sample test.
After passing this sample test, you will have to continue on to the pre-registration process to take the full typing test.
Next read about the equipment and technical requirements of the training course.
