In Windows Vista I have to manually connect the wireless each time I start the computer.
|
The new Vista version of Microsoft Windows no longer automatically connects peer-to-peer wireless networks.
That makes setup less automatic since you have to manually click to turn on the wireless.
In Version 5 of TypeWell you can fix this by going to the Wireless settings on the Link menu to enable autoconnect.
|
|
|
My wireless card isn't working with TypeWell, or my wireless link disconnects after a few minutes.
|
This is probably due to a problem with your wireless configuration.
Please see our step by step directions for setting up or fixing problems with wireless linking.

|
The cursor jumps in the middle of my typing.
|
Accidental tapping of the touchpad during rapid typing can cause this in older versions of TypeWell.
Version 5 of TypeWell has automatic tap suppression to fix this.
For older versions of TypeWell, try the following.
Turn off the tap-to-click feature in Control Panel/Mouse/Touch.
If you can't find this option, look for a driver for your
touchpad on the support page for your computer's
manufacturer; for instance Dell Support
has downloadable drivers for most of Dell's computers.
If you have a synaptics-brand touchpad you can also get the newest drivers directly from
Synaptics.

The whole line of text flickers when I type a letter.
|
This is due to the ClearText feature of Windows interacting with older versions of TypeWell.
Version 5 of TypeWell has automatic flicker suppression to fix this.
For older versions of TypeWell, you can manually fix by turning off ClearText.
Go to the Start menu and choose Control Panel, then open the Display icon.
Click the Appearance tab at the top, then the Effects button.
The second checkbox says Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts: ClearType.
Uncheck this checkbox, and click OK twice to close the Display Properties.

When I try to start TypeWell, it gives a Windows error and won't start.
|
If your computer was powered down incorrectly, one of TypeWell's temporary files might have been corrupted.
To fix this, use Windows to go to the C:\Program Files\TypeWell\folder (or C:\TypeWell Programs\Transcriber in Version 5) and delete the files autosave.rtf, twlog.1, and twlog.2.
Now TypeWell will start correctly.
|
|
|
When I change fonts on the transcriber computer, the font change doesn't appear on the reader computer.
|
It's not supposed to.
The font on the Reader computer is controlled separately, to allow the Reader to pick the most readable font.
Also, color changes such as for spelling errors are not shown to the Reader.
However, font style changes (bold and italic) are shown on the Reader display.

How can I type symbols like x, y, and z quickly?
|
In Version 5 of TypeWell go to Help/Math to read about math mode.
In any version you can turn off expansion using the Options menu.
But for frequent use it's nice to have something faster.
In version 4 or newer, type a period before the symbol to keep it from expanding.
For instance, type .x to get just an x.
Or, add to your personal dictionary some abbreviations for the common algebra or science symbols.
For instance, define xx to be x.

Why is TypeWell frozen after I turn on my computer from hibernation?
|
Some brands of computers become confused when TypeWell is
linked while the computer is put into suspend, or hibernation mode.
When such computers are resumed, TypeWell can freeze.
If your computer is susceptible to this, close TypeWell before you suspend.
